Common Misconceptions
There is a lot of misinformation about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women, especially as it pertains to cardiovascular risk and breast cancer. Consider the following:
The International Menopause Society (see below) confirmed in 2016 that HRT may be used to reduce a woman’s risk of cardiovascular disease in appropriately chosen candidates.
The World Cancer Research Fund published a report in May 2017 that strongly linked breast cancer risk in post-menopausal women to body fat percentage and lifestyle.
Additional literature illuminates that an overweight woman’s risk of breast cancer after menopause may be reduced by starting HRT.
