Our
Process

We focus on uncovering the root causes of disease and building individualized protocols that improve health across multiple systems.

Foundations: Root Cause Analysis

Our clinical success has been built on a steadfast commitment to the concept of root cause analysis by pursuing the most granular metabolic drivers that are the basis for disease and perpetual health alike.

In fact, this bottom-up approach simplifies our protocols and ripples through multiple systems. For example, a protocol for multiple sclerosis also improves cardiovascular risk. A protocol for concussion management also reduces the risk for liver disease.

The challenge with root cause analysis is the noise in the diagnostic toolbox. This makes it difficult for providers to identify what tools to develop and why.

Our commitment to neurotrauma and neurodegenerative disease, research bandwidth, and emergence as a referral center have enabled the practice to commit the resources to explore and mature with innovations that align with a metabolic approach to practice that promotes clinically meaningful benefits.

How We Work With You

The sequence below provides a glimpse into our process flow:
A medical interview provides information to guide initial diagnostic choices.
Laboratory tests provide a high level metabolic snapshot.
Functional genomics provides insight into the origin of some metabolic challenges and assists with protocol design.
Functional cognitive testing measures brain and nervous system performance.
Proprietary medical imaging generates detailed structural analysis of the brain or other regions of interest.
A unique protocol is designed based on the information gathered from testing.
Diagnostic testing is repeated to measure change and refine protocol design.

Key Differences

If experience is a useful guide, our approach to protocol design and management takes a bit of getting used to, even for an experienced client. (See How We Are Different). Beyond high-level lifestyle modifications and all the options of a mature functional medicine practice, Socol MD does a few things differently:
All protocols are actively managed
Our follow up schedule caters to your needs and what we decide together should be done to promote your success.
Home visits
We may want to come to your home to better understand the dynamics of your living space.
Intensive metabolic reset
We may recommend a 30-to-120-day intensive experience for individuals who would benefit from the highest level of care.

Practice Concepts

Payment Model
With the exception of those who are solely interested in a metabolic or genomic consult, your engagement with the practice occupies a seat that is paid for by a monthly subscription fee benchmarked against the value of our outcomes and medical complexity.
There is no contract at Socol MD. The monthly subscription cost covers all administrative and professional costs, and there is no limit to how often clients under this model may engage the practice. We do not subscribe to a “plan” concept.
Practice Size
We limit the number of seats in the practice based on the anticipated needs of our existing clientele.
Standard of Practice
Socol MD does not rely on standards of practice to inform medical decision making, since in most instances standards of practice are inconsiderate of metabolomic drivers of disease. The practice instead references an evidence-based medical model to support clinical decision making.
